Interactive Chinese on normal webpages

A Chinese popup dictionary that also remembers your words

Rolko makes normal Chinese webpage text interactive in a supported desktop browser. Hover a word to see pinyin and meaning, then save useful vocabulary into the same system you use for reading and spaced-repetition review. It works with selectable webpage text—not text baked into images, screenshots, or video pixels.

The web app works in every modern browser. No extension required.

Try the real webpage lookup interaction

This demo reuses Rolko’s page-text hover and word panel components so the lookup and save behavior matches the browser extension.

The interactive Chengdu article above is a real Rolko page-text demo, not a screenshot of a hypothetical popup.

  1. Open normal webpage text

The demo exposes a selectable Chinese article through the same page-text interaction used by the extension.

  2. Inspect 街头巷尾

Open the real word panel to see “jiētóu xiàngwěi” and its contextual English dictionary meaning.

  3. Set a vocabulary state

With a signed-in account and a plan that permits new-word saving, mark the word Learning or Learned.

  4. Reuse it later

The saved state belongs to the same vocabulary and spaced-repetition flow used by supported subtitles and imported text.

Common questions

What to know before you start

Can I hover over Chinese characters on any website?

Rolko is designed for normal selectable Chinese webpage text in a supported desktop browser. Some protected, canvas-based, image-based, or unusually structured pages may not expose usable text.

Does the popup show pinyin and English meaning?

Yes. For supported Chinese text, Rolko’s word panel shows pinyin and an English meaning and lets you save the word.

Can I save words from Xiaohongshu or Weibo?

You can use the extension when a supported webpage exposes normal selectable Chinese text. Rolko does not claim compatibility with every page state or mobile app.

Does Rolko perform OCR on images?

No. The popup dictionary works with real webpage text. Chinese text inside an image or video frame requires OCR and is not currently supported.

Where do saved words go?

After sign-in, saved words can sync to the Rolko web app, where you can track vocabulary and review it with spaced repetition.
